Time: Plan on two hours
You may take a taxi, but waiting times at border checkpoint can make this an expensive proposition. Instead, take the bus. Three different buses, running all day, make the journey from Malaysian Immigration just before the causeway, right into Singapore. You can either take the #170 Singapore Local, the Causeway Link, or the Johor-Singapore Express Bus. All end up at Singapore’s Queen Street bus station. From here, taxis are available to any point in Singapore, and you’re two blocks away from the MRT subway.
In Johor Bahru, we bought our ticket for the Johor-Singapore Express bus at the ticket window closest to the northwestern corner of the bus ticket counters, located directly across the street, north of the Johor train station. The price was RM 2.40. After buying your ticket, walk across the street to Malaysian Immigration, go upstairs (unless you’re Malaysian; then you stay downstairs) to officially leave Malaysia and get your passport stamped. Then, go back downstairs and stand in queue for your bus.
The bus will then take you over the causeway to Singapore Immigration at Woodlands. Get off the bus, fill out the immigration card, have your passport stamped by Singapore officials, then board your bus (same company, but a different bus), which will take you to the Queen Street station in Singapore. You may then either get a taxi to your destination, or walk 2 blocks southwest of the station along Queen Street to the Bugis MRT (subway) station. The station kiosk has MRT maps. See Using MRT for instructions on how the subway works, moneywise.
For money, you’ll find an ATM located one block away SW along Queen Street, at the Rochor Centre, in the central courtyard.
