Getting to Singapore
The international air terminal at Changi is a clean, modern terminal, with MRT subway access to the city through the station at Terminal 2. Terminals 1 and 2 are linked via a tram.
From Johor Bahru, Malaysia, border-crossing buses are your best bet.
Getting around in Singapore
Travel within Singapore is fast and efficient, with options including taxis, buses, and the exceptional MRT (subway). There are also trishaws in the river and colonial areas, and tour boats which go along scenic parts of the river.
Taxi flag-drop is S$2.40, and all city fares are metered. Ask about flat rates for destinations outside the city proper.
The integrated LRT and MRT subway/light rail system is your best choice for getting around the island efficiently. There are three main lines, and you can get a pocket-sized subway map at each station.
Fares are paid at machines with touch-screens, simply touch your destination, and insert bills or coins. A green fare card pops out along with your change. Touch your card at the sensor on the turnstile, and you’ll get access to the platform. Upon leaving your destination station, return to the fare machine, touch “Return Deposit” on the touch-screen, insert your card, and your S$1 deposit will be returned to you.
SIA Hop-on Bus Routes
Singapore Airlines’ Hop-on bus operates on an extended loop throughout the city, stopping at 21 places well-frequented by tourists, including the Botanic Gardens. The bus costs S$3 for a day pass if you hold a SIA Boarding Pass, and S$12 if you do not. In addition, you may hop on the bus without a pass, and pay a fare, generally S$2 or so, to your next destination.
